Raymond Nazon

I’m 46 years old and I have been Carnivore since September 15, 2017. Prior to that I was keto for 1 year and tried carnivore for 6 weeks but failed due to carnivore flu.

I began with A1C of 6.0 and this is what triggered me to research all this to find a solution. I am now at a A1C 5.7

At my highest I weighed 252lbs and now I weigh 192 lbs.

I do intermittent fasting and I tried all the different variations and picked a personal favorite. I do Alternate Day Fasting. I fast between 32-40 hrs and I am comfortable in doing that.

My strength and endurance has huge improvements and it seems that I keep improving the more I tighten my diet to ribeye and salt. Right now I eat untrimmed ribeye beef 98% of the time around 3 lbs every other day.

The ailments that have gone in remissions are many through this diet. I have diverticulitus, it used to be so bad that during flare ups the pain scale was 11 (want to kill yourself) to a 12 (passout). I know it’s still there but I have not had a single flare up in at least 4 months.

Urinary Tract Infections happened every other months and were very painful and last 1-2 weeks.

After carnivore I can’t remember the last time I got one, it’s been at least 6 months and when it came I barely noticed it.

I used to get colds at least once a month. I got my last cold this past September 2018 and it’s hardly noticeable compared to my colds prior to carnivore.

I also had plantar fascitis and heel spurs, both seem to be in remission as now when I walk I feel no pain but if I eat out even on carnivore then I can feel them again.

I have so many list of ailments that has gone away and I will list them so as not to bore you.

  • acne
  • dandruff
  • sinus infection
  • snoring
  • sleep apnea
  • skin tags (not all are gone)
  • dry skin
  • rosacea
  • morning erections were almost nonexistent

I was a couch potato before my diet journey, now my workouts consists of Orange Theory Fitness, Shotokan Karate and Jiu Jitsu. I usually do my practices in a fasted state and lately I have been fasted at least 30+ hrs and do up to 4-5 hrs workout and have no problems handling the intensity.

I have never felt healthier in my life and that includes in my 20’s.

Carnivore is life for me.

My thanks to all my hero’s out there: Dr Shawn Baker, theAndersen family, Kelly Hogan, Esmée La Fleur, Gary Taubes, Dr. Jason Fung, Nina Teicholz, Professor Tim Noakes and many more out in the low/carb carnivore space.

This almost sounds so cliche by now but after watching the documentary “What The Health”, my family went full blaze mode and changed their diet drastically. They started question and worried about my 90% protein (meat) and 10% healthy fat such as avocado or veggies such as baby arugula intakes. After my mother’s plea to try go vegan for one month, I gave in.

Pre vegan: I was 185 pounds, worked out often and eaten clean the 6 days of the week. My immune system was crappy since I was a child but I had chickenpox which resulted shingles at young age. It was once or twice a year incidents for me. Everything in my blood works came out great. I avoided workout supplements due to “natural flavors” and “added sugar” such as maltodextrin or other chemically known names.

1 month of vegan: I was 180 pounds, still worked out but my muscles just felt flat most of the time. My face was no longer puffy but my girlfriend noticed that my stomach was getting softer. I noticed that most of vegan diets allowed them to have complex carbs/whole grain stuff so I ate them moderately too. I’ve eaten high protein veggies such as broccoli, edamame and potatoes. I’ve also made sure to eat avocado and healthy fats by eating nuts. I wasn’t miserable as I’ve gotten used to eating carbs by this time. I avoided eating meat substitutes since the ingredients in the back had so many chemical stuff in there. Here’s where things went wrong. I’ve had shingles almost once every week and my immune system was shot even with ginger/lemon/kale etc juicing at home. My blood work showed I’ve had elevated blood sugar and though my cholesterol almost remained the same, my HDL actually were lowered.

After one month, I stopped and went back to my meat driven diet again. I’ve eaten almost strictly carnivore diet and oh boy! I missed red meat! Back in two month of my meat diet, my doctor said my HDL had been high and I was back to average. Also, immune system felt better. I try turning the table on my mother but still no luck. It’s just so hard to sway someone’s eating habits after they’ve been brainwashed for so long.

Doug Brunson

Greetings, my name is Doug, I’m 28 years young 6’5, 192lbs and have been practicing a mostly carnivore diet with the exception of social situations for 8 months now. Prior to practicing a carnivorous diet I was plant based, with a focus on detoxification, fasting, raw foods and lots of fruit to reverse chronic issues.

I’ll share my background and why I began a plant based diet.

At age 19 I was living a not so health conscious lifestyle, consuming copious amounts of fast food while actively involved in MMA, competitive paintball (NPPL) and riding quads. It wasn’t long before I deteriorated 2 lumbar disks, developed a bulging disk, fractured and dislocated my L5 vertebrae. It became very difficult for me to deal with the injuries and not being able to participate in the activities I was so passionate about. I ended up spiraling downward and consuming even more junk as well as drinking alcohol and using other substances for the first time as a coping mechanism.

Fast forward a year or so and I was a wreck. At this point I had chronic joint and back pain, skin rashes covering a 1/3 of my body, under active thyroid which made it almost impossible to sweat, BP of 85/50, chronic fatigue, chronic constipation and a list of mental and emotional issues to top it off. Oh, and did I forget to mention the Neurospine institute diagnosed me with osteoarthritis?

I sought help from so many doctors and experts and all I ended up with was a dried up bank account. this is when I found, not just any plant based diet, but the MUCUSLESS DIET HEALING SYSTEM… by Arnold Ehret. He proposed that mucus forming foods are the cause of human illness and that man was biologically designed to consume only fruits and tender leafy greens. I jumped right in and began living on fruits and salads. Boy did I lose weight fast… From 200 down to 140 in 6 months. I will say that I felt less inflammation and eating so much from really helped with flushing out pounds of impacted fecal matter from the garbage I was consuming. I felt loads better with the removal of all the junk and still having the nutrient reserves to function. I eventually balanced out with cooked starches and heavier foods where I got back to around 160 pounds. At this point the skin rashes cleared up, I had less inflammation and overall felt much better although I felt very weak and was developing a poor relationship with food as I couldn’t EVER find satiation with my meals of fruit, salads, nuts or starches. This way of eating continued for the next 4 years.

During my plant based journey I became certified as a detox specialist, iridologist and took plant based nutrition courses to learn as much as possible.

After a couple years into a plant based diet I began experiencing bouts of depression that progressively got worse as the years went on. My last bout of depression was crippling and lasted a couple months where I shut myself off from the world and didn’t want to be awake. Some of the other issues that had had been progressively getting worse was my digestion. I would constantly feel bloated and fatigued after meals. Socially I became a recluse and didn’t feel comfortable around people who ate animals foods lol I was also an active member in the Dr. Robert Morse cult that brain wash people into believing we are a frugivore species. This was especially damaging because I felt I was harming my body if I wasn’t eating fruit or tender greens.

In December 2016 I had hit rock bottom and fell into the most challenging bout of depression yet. I slept and binge ate vegan junk food for month. I was now 205 lbs of tub and edema. I left the country in Jan 2017 to pull myself out of it. I wen to Costa Rica and began a 95 day coconut WATER only fast from fresh coconuts. to my surprise this was probably the best I ever felt during my plant based journey. As soon as I reintroduced solid food I began binging again. Within 6 months my digestion tanked and I was worse off, unable to digest any plant foods. At this point I was traveling to different countries around the world and it was a struggle just to go from one hostel to another. I remember waking up with such a horrible feeling in my guts and feeling overwhelming anxiety while in a tropical paradise. I purchased a blood glucose monitor at some point. I would eat a couple mangoes and my blood sugar would shoot up over 250. This gave me a feeling of brain fog and fatigue.

In the beginning of this year (2018) I began making this joke while traveling in Asia, “I want beef” and watching YouTube channels of people who ate only animal foods. Ok so At this point I was miserable and didn’t know what to do. I literally couldn’t digest anything and felt depressed, slept 12-15 hours a day and my joint pain was horrible! I came across Aajonus Vonderplanitz and reads his book. He said that red meat cures depression and is a great food for recovering from frutarianism. I walked down to a market, purchased lamb ate it, digested it well and it was like a like came on.

The feelings of depression and anxiety diminished over night as well as the chronic fatigue. For the next couple weeks I lived on eggs, butter and ribeye steaks. Everyday I was feeling so much better and mentally stable. Those last two weeks in the tropics were incredible. My digestive fire came back very quickly and my strength began sky rocketing. At this point my vegan wife now began eating animal foods and reaping the benefits as well. I felt Like I was reborn. The feeling of satiation after eating is priceless.

After leaving the tropics I flew to Washington and began practicing a strict carnivore diet where I consumed 2-3 pounds of beef a day with some butter. Over the course of 6 months I gained 30 lbs of lean mass while at the very same time felt less joint pain and inflammation then I did on a fruitarian or plant based diet. My complexion was much better as well. After spending 6 months on a carnivore diet I can now digest plant foods once again but choose to avoid them with the exception of social situations.

It’s now been 8 months mostly carnivore and I can honestly say I’m in the best shape of my life without any major health challenges and now strength train on a regular basis without issues. Meat NEVER gets boring and I’m always happy with a pound of beef and some fat on my plate and leave feeling content and happy. I consume more than double the caloric intake from when I was plant based and only got lean and muscular. This way of eating may not be for everyone but it sure does work well for me and has really helped pull me out of a very dark place.

My top fav foods are beef, liver, heart, bone marrow, beef fat, eggs and kefir

Thank you!!!!
Doug

I began eating an animal-based diet in October. Now I can walk again! We put my wheelchair in storage. I have MS, and I was deteriorating steadily over the course of 25 years. I had never had a period of remission before. I didn’t know what remission would feel like.

Wow. I had lost bowel control, lost ability to balance, and my vision was increasingly blurred. I was developing dementia, dysautonomia and seizures. I was malnourished and anemic, with LGS and IBS-d. I was on Fentanyl and lots of other meds. I stopped the narcotics in January, but I didn’t improve, and my pain was unmanageable.

I have had pneumonia twice this year. I spent an average of one week per month in hospital. But after starting a ZC WOE, I haven’t been in an ER or hospital since October, which may be a record for me!

I’m not going to die just yet. I can drive short distances (I drove for the first time in 2 years recently). Now I have to figure out what healthy people do; I don’t really know. I honestly feel like an infant, or a person who was comatose for a couple of decades. Memories are coming back in chunks.

I used to be an opera singer, then a school teacher. I haven’t worked since 2006. I don’t have enough stamina to work yet, but I truly expect that I eventually will. I can’t wait! I can sing and play piano and flute again. It’s exciting!

I have fine and gross motor skills. I can thread a needle (before, I had intense tremors)! I’m still forgetful, but it’s getting better each day. I still get pain, but it’s only occasionally instead of unremitting. I don’t contemplate suicide. I don’t fantasize about taking narcotics.

This Christmas I will be with family. I haven’t been in their company since my father’s funeral in 2015! It’s as though we don’t know each other. And I don’t really know who I am besides an invalid. Life is for learning.

My husband has been my primary caregiver. We don’t know how to relate to each other now. Sometimes that causes stress because the change has been so rapid. But I don’t ever want to be so dependent again.

Connor Sullivan

I went keto in February 2018, and after learning about Dr. Baker and hearing his story I went primarily carnivore with the help of a close friend who was also experimenting with the diet. When I say primarily carnivore I mean about 90% of my daily caloric intake comes from red meat. I still introduce small doses of carbohydrate due to the fact that I’m a type 1 diabetic and am still experimenting with how low I can go in terms of carbs per day while still keeping my blood sugar high enough. This has involved experimenting with lowering my total daily dose of insulin, and I’m happy to say I’m down for 40 units a day to 15.

Even more impressive, my A1c has gone all the way down to 5.4, prior to this diet it was 7.6. Standard deviation, calculated by my constant glucose monitor, is also down from 50 to 20 mg/dL. In other words my type 1 diabetes is under incredible control, and my sugars have never been as stable as they are now. Furthermore, the rest of my bloodwork has improved as well, and my blood pressure has gone down to normal levels.

In 2010 I blew out my right knee very badly, and blew it out again in 2013. My surgeon said I would never squat with weight again in my life, and as a gym rat this was pretty upsetting. I’m happy to report though that I can now squat heavier than ever, and go running and sprinting in the very same day, and still be able to deadlift without pain the day after. All of my other injuries, including a partially torn rotator cuff and an injury to the quadratus lumborum on my right side now no longer bother me, even with heavy and frequent squats deadlifts and bench presses. Also, my waist size has gone from a 36 to a 32, while at the same time gaining six pounds and getting stronger (I’m a skinny guy).

I also haven’t been sick since starting this diet… which is a big deal for me, a guy who has experienced sinus infections so bad that I was frequently on antibiotics 4-6 times a year.

Thanks, Dr. Baker. Meat Heals.

Mathieu N.

Hi,

My name is Mathieu. I am 25 years old and live in Québec, Canada. I started the Carnivore Diet on January 14. I first heard of Shawn by listening to the Joe Rogan podcast. At first, I was intrigued by the benefits Dr. Baker talked about, so I began exploring the Zero Carb diet lifestyle, Keto diet, and diet and nutrition for longevity.

I was constantly bloated, I had a lack of energy, I had to take a nap everyday after work, and I work at a desk in front of a computer all day. I had sleep problems such as sleep paralysis and insomnia. I also began snoring louder with the weight I had gained.

I decided to try the carnivore diet initially for 2 weeks, after which I felt great so I decided to continue. Now 5 months later, I eat steak, butter, bacon, sometimes liver, fish and rarely chicken. The diet is very easy to follow, and grocery shopping and cooking is much simpler than before.

I feel much better overall, my energy is clean and steady, and my thoughts are sharp all day for work. I never get sick anymore. Before I could keep a cold of the flu for a month twice a year. My seasonal allergies are much better, and my skin is clearer and seems to heal faster.

I was able to cut all supplements like creatine, protein shakes, BCAAs, caffeine, pre-workouts, and all those other unnecessary bodybuilding supplements. Steaks are the most potent supplements IMO.

I had been working out in the gym since last July for 6 days a week. At first I thought that without carbs I would lose strength in the gym, but it only increased week after week.

I went from barely deadlifting 225 to deadlifting 405. My cardio is also much better. I feel I can run for much longer during races (I do mostly 5k and 10k obstacle course races). I have the best cardio of my life right now.

I lost a total of 43 pounds since I started my journey and my body composition changed drastically.

Thank you Dr Baker for opening my eyes on diet, nutrition and physical performance. I really enjoy listening to your podcasts, videos and your Twitter and Instagram pages.

By the way, I really like the Human Performance Outliers podcast with you and Zach. It’s very good. The amount of information is incredible, I am glad I found you and the ZC community online.

I am talking about it to my friends and family. One of my friends started carnivore and already went from 359 pounds to 334 in about a month. He loves it. He told me that his energy is much better.

Thank you for the awareness you give to people. I see myself continuing this WOE [ed: way of eating] for a long time.

Mathieu before and after a carnivore diet. He has lost weight and gained tremendous strength.

My Four Month N=1 (Self-)Experiment on going Zero Carb 100% Carnivore.

This is a lengthy article. So for just the Highlights:

  1. Meat-only way of eating healed my Rheumatoid Arthritis in weeks.
  2. No veggies, fruits, fiber, grains, nuts & etc.
  3. Just meat & water only. I have done a very limited amount of cheese. Tried eggs at about 6 weeks into my experiment, and it did not affect the RA, but they did not work well for me.
  4. My eating consist of about 90% beef, non-organ meats and the rest pork. High fat ribeyes & high fat ground beef are my mainstay. I only season with salt, pepper & rosemary.
  5. I feel GREAT!!!! Improvement in all areas of life too!!!! Nothing negative at all. PTL 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
  6. No more outbreak of kidney stones.
  7. Yes I am sticking with it!!!! Not because I need to but because I love this way of eating.

Here is a little background on why I chose to go Zero Carb 100% Carnivore(ZC). The reason I shifted from a Ketogenic way of eating is I wanted to see they effects on my Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). I’ve kept it managed well for over 10 years but I had flare ups from over use & cold weather. Keto greatly helped my RA when I changed back to it in a strict fashion a few years ago. I was already about 85% to 95% Zero Carb Carnivore (ZC) while Ketogenic. Curcumin & Hemp/CBD Oil had helped my RA but it did not cure it or put it in remission and it was steadily progressing. After much research & talking to people with RA that had successfully done ZC with great success I decided to give it a N=1 (self-)experiment.

My thumb on my right hand was affected the most. I had lost most use of it, and the pain was horrible at times. I needed to address this soon because it is a progressive, crippling & very painful condition that will worsen with age. I had never taken any prescription or OTC medicines for RA & I did not plan to. My prognosis was not good long term under standard medical care & plus the many horrible side effects from the medicine used to treat RA. My joints all through my body was rapidly becoming less & less functioning and causing more and more discomfort. I had inflammation all throughout my body. I was feeling it everywhere. I tried to hide it & stay as positive as I could but I was feeling like a very old person. I was upset with myself because I am a person very knowledgeable on living healthy & treating issues with natural therapies, but I could not help myself very much with this condition. I knew so many were much worse than I were but I saw where my future was heading & it was bleak. I want to be able to enjoy life to the fullest with my wife & four kids.

I had done so much research on everything for RA. I tried many different things but nothing made a significant difference. I kept reading about a meat only way of eating for autoimmune issues such as Rheumatoid Arthritis & many other conditions.

I had done a Carnivore way of eating years before, twice and loved it. However, I did not do it for RA then, it was before I knew I had RA & before I had any noticeable symptoms. I did it for building muscularity & strength. Since the 1990’s I have been a HIT (High Intensity Trainer). Arthur Jones was the founder of this method. I learned of strength training in the early 1980’s from old magazines of Peary Rader, especially Articles written by or about Arthur Jones, Vic Tanney, Steve Reeves, Larry Scott, Mike Mentzer & Vince Gironda. Vince’s Steak & Eggs Diet really caught my attention. It made sense & I personally was wired to eat that way. I was born a Carnivore I think. So I greatly gravitated to his way of eating and I loved it. It worked for me and I felt great, performed great & looked pretty good. I did this until my Lifting Coaches convinced me I would die from eating that way. By the way Mr. Gironda looked great & lived very healthily in to his 80’s.

I also was exposed to ZC from of all things The Grateful Dead, actually their sound man, Owsley “Bear” Stanley, from the Grateful Dead so that was in the mid-1980’s. I was a Grateful Dead Fan. He was a huge advocate of ZC Carnivore Eating & had been doing it since the 1950’s. A true pioneer in the ZC Carnivore movement.

After college I gravitated back to my Zero Carb Carnivore roots. I loved it because I was single at the time & working long hours and it was simple to eat just meat. I can cook hamburger patties. I can order a McDouble & eat only the patties. I had less Decision Fatigue. This worked great until I met & married my future wife, Lori. She also “knew” I would die without veggies, fruits, whole grains, fiber & etc. So by 1997 I was back to large amounts of vegetables, fruits, whole grains & not near the amount of meat. Within a few years from then I started feeling the affects from my Rheumatoid Arthritis. It was getting worse and worse. I tried many natural herbs & therapies and some did help but only limitedly.

Around 2013 my right thumb had become almost totally non-functioning. The pain was horrible and getting worse every day. I was now having trouble doing one of my favorite hobbies, Combat Pistol Shooting. I was having an incredibly hard time loading bullets into my magazines & to press the magazine release button on the gun to be able to quickly drop a mag & replace it.
I was also having a very difficult time buttoning my shirts, holding anything, twisting caps off, practicing Martial Arts, playing guitar and etc.

As a Personal Trainer it was harder & harder to load plates, change weights & to assist my clients. It was even harder not to show the pain to my clients. My own training was incredibly difficult because of the high levels of inflammation I had & the excessive pain I had to go through to achieve Full Momentary Muscular Failure that I needed to get the proper intensity level for an effective session. My recovery post workout was horrible. I had to keep extending my time between workouts to be able to recover and to be able to function post workout. Most that do a HIT protocol workout one to two times per week. Some with less recovery ability or circumstances workout once every 10 days to 14 days. I went from a couple of sessions per week to once a week to eventually every third week. That extreme infrequency worked by far the best for my optimal strength levels, body composition & how I could function at my other activities. I also had to start using gripping aids such as straps & hooks to do my lifting especially with the Deadlift, Shrugs Rows & Pull Downs. My fingers would not allow me to grip effectively. As a person schooled in Old School Powerlifting I was ashamed I had to use these grip aids. Because of my experiences I had Confirmation Bias that everyone needed gripping aids when they did not. I am correcting this now with my clients that I inadvertently hampered them in full development of their grip & forearm development.

So my results have been beyond stellar and way beyond all my expectations!!!!! My Rheumatoid Arthritis is what I would classify in full 100% remission. My pain is totally gone. My movement is back to normal. My inflammation is gone throughout my body & in particular my hands & elbows. My long term Tendonitis (Tennis Elbow)is gone. My Hip pain is gone. My knee pain is gone. My energy levels are incredible. I am sleeping better than ever, except when I have too much energy. My cognition is vastly improved. My recovery rate is better than it has been since I was in my late 20’s and I am 49 years old. My strength numbers have increased. My body composition has gotten better. My digestion is perfect. My bowel movements are the best ever. My dry eyes are not a problem. My allergies have been so much better than in years past. I have not had any sickness since 2013 so I have a great immune system & since going ZC still no problems. I avoided the dreaded cold & Flu this season that was going around this winter. No outbreak of Kidney Stones which have been plagued with especially when eating plants containing Oxalates such as Collard Greens & Spinach. I’m now almost supplement-free. I will continue to supplement with Vitamin D & some minerals if I need them. My Super Supplement is called Ribeye 🥩 & Water!!!! Nothing got worse from this way of eating. It has all been positive!!!! I look forward to continuing this way of eating indefinitely. I truly enjoy this way of eating. PTL 🙏🏻🙏🏻

I want to thank the people & groups who have helped me in doing this way of eating the right way through advice, insight, testimonials, education & support.
Thanks to Vince Gironda, Owsley “Bear” Stanley, Joe & Charlene Andersen, Dr. Shawn Baker, Dr. Paul Mabry, Lawrence Neal, Corporate Warrior Podcast, Zeroing in on Health, Zero Carb UK, Zero Carb Doc, World Carnivore Tribe, and Zero Carb Zen. Especially grateful for my wife, Lori, in supporting this decision and trying it herself with amazing results too and being a great steak maker!!!!!!

I have been working with ketosis for 4 years.

Carnivore since middle of December, not looking back now.

Growing muscle mass, while staying incredibly shredded at 82kg at the moment. Deadlifting over triple my bodyweight and going for the 80kg-85kg British deadlift record. Prior to carnivore, my lifts were not going up and only slowly when improving. Mental energy and focus for the lifts has sky rocketed since meat only.

Skin is completely clear, immune system is optimum, recovery every night from training 2-3 times a day and energy has never been higher.
