I was doing some research on veganism a few months ago, and I came across people who were using the meat only diet or the carnivore diet. After seeing the damage done to eating only vegetables, I saw that many people were eating the meat only or zero carb diet. The most notable YouTube videos that were the most compelling were from Jordan and Mikalia Peterson. Assuming they were telling the truth, I found their results were quite remarkable. I’ve been battling weight for most of my adult life, and I have always been looking for a better way to do it. I was never a vegan and I never considered it because the vegans I knew were very bitchy and hot-tempered.

I’m not going to write much here about nutritional issues because I’m not that well-studied in the subject. I’ve heard all sides but this one seemed to make the most sense. I’m in the habit of using the natural law or natural order to make important decisions. I wish I had known how to do this earlier. But the carnivore diet makes sense because before modern times, most of the nutrient rich foods were animals. While some vegans claim there is an ethical issue in killing animals, the truth is that is what we were designed to eat along with plants. It is a part of the natural law so I decided to give it a try based on the Petersons’ testimony.

What I now eat is as follows: chicken, fish, beef, cheese, eggs, and lots of bacon. That’s it. And I’ve been eating like this for 134 days as of this writing.
Here are the results from this test:

  • Improved mental clarity (some may disagree)
  • Improved mood
  • Sugar addiction is gone
  • I had pain in my right shoulder area and that’s gone
  • Hunger is manageable and easy to control
  • I’ve lost a little over 18 pounds since the beginning of this diet and 47.5 lbs from two years ago
  • Macular degeneration is gone. This was a big surprise. I don’t have any more floaters in my eyes
  • Sleep has improved
  • My teeth have stopped deteriorating as I lost three molars last year
  • I’ve had a chronic cough for over 20 years and now that’s gone too
  • Bowel movements are limited to once a day, sometimes two. Sitting on the can once a day is plenty
  • I can get up at 6AM and go through the day until 8PM without a nap
  • Energy level feels like I’m in my twenties; I’m 72
  • Type 2 Diabetes gone-actually did it before carnivore on the plain low carb Atkins type diet by losing weight.
  • I take no more prescription drugs

I thought the Atkin’s diet was good, but this is a little better and easier to stay on without relapsing into the old ways. I’ve completely lost my desire for fruits and vegetables. I’m not sure I want to eat them again. I’m still considering it. With all of the sprays being used in agriculture, it may make sense to stay on the carnivore-zero carb. I like to drink beer but the last time I had one it made me sick and I stayed up all night trying to go to sleep. I’ve learned to just stay away from liquor as I don’t see any health benefits in drinking it.

I’m trying to find some negative effects from this method and I can’t find too many. My social life is different as I don’t want to go out and eat with friends because I don’t want the temptation to eat the rabbit food. I don’t have the desire to have my nightly Margarita as all of my sugar cravings are gone. The money I save from buying crappy food and eating out helps to keep me within my budget. My meat costs are about $200.00 per month and I buy most of it from the local butcher shop. I save money by not buying things like bread, peanut butter, nuts, popcorn, pizza, and produce.

However, I am really perturbed to learn this at the late age of 72 and I’m wondering now if this vegan nonsense is politically motivated. I think it is, but that’s a subject for another time.

Again, I look at the results; if it works, then I think it is useful. I’m still learning about all the nutritional issues, but at the end of the day, it still comes down to results. I haven’t felt better for a long time if ever. I’m actually startled but happy with the results. I see no reason to change anything in the future. If it is working; why fix it?

Annie – 31 year vegetarian now carnivore

Let me tell you a bit about myself, I live in just outside of Brisbane, Australia, I’m 45 years old, have 4 daughters ranging from 19 to 11 years, I work five days a week and am studying a health sciences degree full-time online. I decided to do a Bachelor of Food and Nutrition, after I became obsessed with using food for medicine and good health. I want to help others regain their health as I have gained mine back since starting a ketogenic diet over four years ago, I’m now carnivore.

For as long as I can remember I have suffered from IBS issues – gut pain and cramping, explosive diarrhoea, severe constipation – first seeing a GP for it when I was 14 years old. I never had a weight issue until having my first baby, but it certainly became a huge issue for the next 15 years. I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis when I was pregnant with my first daughter and during two pregnancies had gestational diabetes. Over these years I also suffered terrible GORD, repetitive disc bulges, sleep issues, asthma, thrush, recurring chest, sinus and urinary tract infections, major anxiety and depression issues. I had allergy tests done, where I was allergic to 13 of the 16 things I had been tested for and was told I was pre-type 2 diabetic by my overweight GP, who told me I should just expect it as it was in my family.

About 5 years ago, my health was heading south rapidly, with almost daily headaches and weekly migraines. I had a strange turn one day where I blacked out while driving, with my then four-year-old in the car with me. Apparently, I was slurring like I was drunk, but I managed to get my little girl to call the ambulance. I have no recollection of the event, except that I came to with two ambulance officers in my car trying to establish what had happened to me. My husband and police were on the scene when I came to as well, but despite being taken to hospital and tests being done, I never found out what had happened to me – except that they thought the migraine I had, had caused the event.

A few months later I got very unwell with a chest infection, landing myself in hospital for 12 days. My asthma was in a very bad way and I could hardly walk the corridors in the hospital without bringing on an attack. I gained about 5 kilograms during my hospital stay and was referred to a dietician to try to get my weight and health under control. I followed her recommendations religiously as I hated what was happening to me, but all I managed to do was gain more weight. She made me feel like I couldn’t possibly have been following the guidelines she’d set for me and that I was cheating myself.

I’d heard cutting sugar from your diet was good, so I stopped adding sugar on my morning oats and cutting it back substantially from my home baking, which gained me a small win with a couple of kilos weightloss. In November 2014, I then saw a documentary that literally changed my life, featuring Dr Maryanne Demasi, Dr Peter Bruckner, Professor Tim Noakes and Dr Steve Phinney. It was about the low carb, high fat diet and so, fuelled with the small win I’d had from ditching the sugar from my diet, I thought I’d give it a go.

My weight dropped incredibly quickly and majority of my health issues all but disappeared. I haven’t even had a head cold in the four years since starting. Everyone at work gets sick over winter, but I have not as yet. LCHF cured my GORD, disc bulges, asthma, allergies, thrush and I never experienced any more chest, sinus or urinary tract infections. I got stricter with my food choices and went VLC/strict keto, all the while my weight was still slowly creeping off.

At this point I should say I had been a lazy vegetarian for 31 years. I say lazy, as I had eaten fish very occasionally for a few years but never too regularly. I had however been doing a lot of research, reading lots of studies and following some very intelligent people on Twitter. All my research had me concluding that although I was way healthier in my food choices now eating keto, I had to eat a lot more protein than I was. I introduced fish regularly and, much to the shock of my family, I started eating chicken again – it had been 31 years. I started feeling so much better almost immediately, stronger. I then caught wind of Dr Baker’s carnivore study, which, both research and my own curious nature, had me very interested in. Crazy right, as I was only eating chicken, fish and eggs? But I did it, very strictly, ditching coffee, cream, cheese and only eating the chicken, fish, eggs and drinking water. I had it in my head though that I wanted to be brave and try red meat and so set a personal goal to achieve that before the end of the study – I knew for optimal health it was for the best, but I had a lot of mental hurdles stopping me. It came to the last week of the study, I felt amazing but disappointed in myself for not giving red meat a go like I wanted, so one day on my way home from work, I bought a rib eye, cooked it and ate the whole thing. I believe I have eaten at least one piece of red meat every day since.

To date my overall weight loss is about 40kg (or 88lb), with a measurement loss of about 120cm (or 47 inch) total. Hormonally, I have re-gained the 4kg loss I experienced during the study, which I intend on shedding again in the new year. Let’s just say, being a woman is unfair sometimes and the one thing that no diet has helped with is my lifetime suffering from endometriosis. I’m having further surgery in the new year, so hopefully I can get on top of the fake hormones currently circulating my body causing these adverse effects.

So, what happened when I went completely carnivore? Whilst LCHF/Keto helped the majority of my conditions, I was still suffering bouts of IBS issues, some arthritic aches and anxiety. Since going carnivore, I have been able to ascertain that it was vegetables still causing my residual IBS and occasional arthritic soreness. I am physically so much stronger than I have ever been and the recovery from exercise is outstanding. Where I once would have been sore for days and in some instances great pain, I have minimal soreness and generally only the following day, if at all. My mental clarity has been the overwhelming improvement which has me off my medication for the first time in about 10 years. Mentally, I would never have been able to take on such a gruelling schedule of fulltime study, working 5 days a week and four kids before, but carnivore has allowed me that. The first-wave carnivore study began in August 2017, for a three-month duration but I have remained carnivore ever since. I intend on staying this way for the foreseeable future as well for the outstanding health effects it has had on my body and mind.

Funny how life throws you a bone when you feel like the best of it is behind you. Feb. 2017 I was 350+lbs. Depressed and a drunk. Woke up the morning of the 2nd and got ready for work. Bent over to tie up my boots and had to get in a breath to even finish. This just sent me through the roof. I was a wildland firefighter. I had to quit because I couldn’t do the pack test. I couldn’t hunt anymore. It just snapped, this had to change.

Meat heals folks. A1C from 11.2 to 4.7. Now I happily stand at 210lbs.

I am a 72 year old male. I’ve had Type 2 diabetes for over 20 years. I have taken various oral medications to try to control my blood glucose level. Back in early July I had a blood draw at my doctors and my A1C level was 7.5. At the time I was on the generic of Actos and the maximum daily dose of Metformin. My doctor wanted to prescribe a third diabetes medication, but I told him that I would try to “eat better”. I’ve done numerous diets in the past and had some success; but usually regained some of the weight over time. I saw a reference to the Carnivore Diet on a forum that I frequent. After struggling with another attempt at a low fat/low calorie diet I researched the Carnivore Diet and decided to do a 45 day test.

In mid-August I started the Carnivore Diet, but included coffee, eggs and some cheese. At day 56 (8 weeks) eating Carnivore I again had a blood draw. On my own I had eliminated the generic Actos and reduced my Metformin by 50%. When I told my doc this I could tell he was not pleased that I had done this on my own, but I did provide him with daily fasting glucose and blood pressure readings to support what I had done.

After 56 days, my weight had gone down by almost 19 pounds and body fat % down 4.8% (per my “smart” scale). My doc call the next day and told me that my A1C was 5.9 and to further reduce my Metformin dosage by another 50%. He sounded amazed/impressed when he informed me of the new A1C measurement.

I have had diabetes since age 10, and UC since age 18. Being in hospitals and doctors offices is nothing foreign too me, and I hated every time I would have to go because they would always give me horrible news and follow it up with worse news. Example: “So you have ulcerative colitis with inflammatory blood markers higher then I have ever seen… this puts you at greater risk for x, y, and z and also you’ll be reliant on dangerous immune-suppressing drugs for your entire life.”

So I was willing to try anything to take control of my life back, and possibly avoid the grim image the doctors always paint of people’s lives with autoimmune diseases. So I started the carnivore diet (fatty beef/organs/salt/water) and was absolutely thrilled to reap positive results from it.

My inflammatory markers (CRP) are back in normal range and I have no ulcerative colitis symptoms! Also my blood sugars are far more stable with virtually no highs.

All around my life has changed for the better to say the least and I have the carnivore diet to thank. I love this movement because it goes against what every pompous doctor ever thought was true, and I am looking forward to getting on with my life now, a little better everyday!

I went keto in February 2018, and after learning about Dr. Baker and hearing his story I went primarily carnivore with the help of a close friend who was also experimenting with the diet. When I say primarily carnivore I mean about 90% of my daily caloric intake comes from red meat. I still introduce small doses of carbohydrate due to the fact that I’m a type 1 diabetic and am still experimenting with how low I can go in terms of carbs per day while still keeping my blood sugar high enough. This has involved experimenting with lowering my total daily dose of insulin, and I’m happy to say I’m down for 40 units a day to 15.

Even more impressive, my A1c has gone all the way down to 5.4, prior to this diet it was 7.6. Standard deviation, calculated by my constant glucose monitor, is also down from 50 to 20 mg/dL. In other words my type 1 diabetes is under incredible control, and my sugars have never been as stable as they are now. Furthermore, the rest of my bloodwork has improved as well, and my blood pressure has gone down to normal levels.

In 2010 I blew out my right knee very badly, and blew it out again in 2013. My surgeon said I would never squat with weight again in my life, and as a gym rat this was pretty upsetting. I’m happy to report though that I can now squat heavier than ever, and go running and sprinting in the very same day, and still be able to deadlift without pain the day after. All of my other injuries, including a partially torn rotator cuff and an injury to the quadratus lumborum on my right side now no longer bother me, even with heavy and frequent squats deadlifts and bench presses. Also, my waist size has gone from a 36 to a 32, while at the same time gaining six pounds and getting stronger (I’m a skinny guy).

I also haven’t been sick since starting this diet… which is a big deal for me, a guy who has experienced sinus infections so bad that I was frequently on antibiotics 4-6 times a year.

I was raised by older parents who had gone through a series of health issues, especially my father who had a heart attack at 46. I was born shortly after his heart attack which led him on a health quest which led him to be a vegetarian/vegan and so I was raised on mother’s milk, carrot juice and coconut milk and was a bright orange, skinny baby. I was a thin child until I got older and discovered McDonald’s where my daily order became 6 cheese burgers, a large fry, and coke to wash it all down. Of course this led me down a path of becoming an obese young adult. I tried every diet known to man and just made a lot of companies rich selling me their snake oil treatment of the month. My parents both became obese eating cheap processed vegan foods like bread with margarine, potatoes and pasta.

My older brother had developed type 2 diabetes due to his weight, and I watched them slowing remove his toes and fingers, watched him go blind, undergo a kidney transplant, and then die with early onset dementia. Of course he was eating his recommended 300 grams of carbohydrates each day while restricting healthy proteins and fats. He was constantly upping his insulin dose to keep up with his rising glucose levels due to all the carbs and being disabled due to all of his health issues, which pretty much kept him bedridden.

I finally decided it was time to try being a vegetarian/vegan since that was the way I started life and was thin. When you go from a SAD diet to eating more veggies you feel better for sure, but it was not long before my weight began to climb due to all of the carbs. After years of weight gain and topping the scales at over 300 pounds, I refused to get on a scale after 306 showed up. Having a Dr. tell me that I would eventually need a knee replacement due to my weight, along with a consistently rising blood sugar, I decided to give Paleo a try. Paleo was a godsend, and my weight started to drop, but I quickly learned that I could still eat a lot of “healthy carbs” in the form of sweet potatoes, rice and sour dough bread, so the weight loss stalled pretty quickly. Some of my Paleo friends started talking about the success they were having going to a high fat, low carb diet called keto. Since I was stuck at around 250 pounds I decided to give it a shot. After all of my vegetarian/vegan training, the idea of eating more animal products took me couple of months to get over, but I was determined to get to my natural body weight so I ordered some grass fed beef and found a local source of true free range eggs, and I was off and running. I quickly lost another 30 pounds and felt much better but was still experiencing some joint pain, especially in the knee the Dr. has suggested be replaced.

Mick sought out high quality meat products, and on a keto and now carnivore diet has transformed his health.

A couple of months ago as I was fixing breakfast, and I was listening to a podcast, and there was this Dr. talking about the benefits of an all-meat diet, my first thought was this is nuts, but at the same time I was intrigued after my keto success. So I listened to every podcast that Dr. Shawn Baker had done and started researching, and I liked what I found. I have been carnivore for over 2 months and have never felt better. I currently weigh 195 pounds, have a six pack, zero joint pain, an A1C of 5.1, blood pressure is 115 over 68, and my resting heart rate is 62. On my next birthday I will turn 60, and I am in the best shape of life.

What can I say, Meat Heals!!!!

I’m a 55 year old father of a 12 year old and 4 year old. My wife and I have been on a journey for several years. About 10 years ago we started doing a paleo diet followed by a successful keto diet. I lost 65 pounds myself, and my wife lost 70. I kept researching and experimenting. I even unfortunately went vegan for a year, because when I try something I try to follow through. Well, I gained back 45 pounds, got very sick, joint pain and all. Just godawful. Then I was in and out of low carb. I kept falling back on sugary treats and late night snacks and gained back a little bit. Then I found zero carb and have since gotten back to the size I was in high school. While I’m still having some extreme issues with this autoimmune garbage and still having a lot of weakness and pain, my skin and my diabetes are all cured. I’ve been watching your videos and the people that follow this way and seeing what it’s done for them. I’ve been zero carb a few months and things are just getting better and better.

I can’t thank you enough for what you do and others in the zero carb and carnivore community. Thank you, you’re really doing a service for a lot of folks.
